Tombow Dual Brush Pen: Sweeping the Nation from Both Ends

Like the title says, Tombow’s Dual Brush Pen has been sweeping the nation with it’s popularity in the Bullet Journal community. It only makes since with how cool of a product this is. I don’t have much experience with brush pens aside from Faber Castell’s B size Pitt Artist pen, if you consider that a brush style, so this was an interesting purchase to help spruce up some notebook layouts. So let’s take a look.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens

Tombow Pencil Co was established in Japan in 1913 as a wood-cased lead and colored pencil company. Tombow is like the #2 pencil equivalent in the Japanese market. Now they make all sorts of pens, pencils, fountain pens, white out, tape, and other arts and craft products.

The Tombow Dual brush pens are pretty sweet. They use a water-based ink, they are easily blendable, odorless, the tips self-clean after they’ve been used to blend (trust me.. my yellow has turned black a few times and is back to a bright yellow again). These are great for illustrating, doodling, journaling, hand lettering, or just coloring in general.

The pen is made of a nice plastic, is about 10 mm in diameter, and 7.5 inches capped, 8.2 inches with the cap posted, and 7.4 inches with it completely uncapped.  It also has a nice notch on the cap that helps keep the pen from rolling away.

The Brush is made of a nice and flexible nylon fiber. The brush side helps make medium, broad, and fine strokes. The other side is a fine bullet tip made with the same nylon fiber.

The pack that I bought was a 10 pack that came with white, black, green, sea green, blue, a deep blue, brown, yellow, orange, and red.

I just love how vibrant these colors are. I have been using them every day for the past month or so and haven’t had any of them go dry or run out.

Likes-

  • Available in 96 colors
  • Easily available
  • easy to use
  • Love the design and the notch on the cap
  • Self-cleans after blending
  • Works great on most of the paper I use on a daily basis

Cons-

  • Depending on your budget this can be pricey but it seems like 70% of the year most places have the 10 packs on sale for 50% off
  • I’d like to see them make shorter size versions which would make it easier to carry around in a bag.
